Practical information

Practical information

A few things that are good to know before you come to Ibo. If your question is not answered here, ask our chat assistant or contact us.

Included in your stay

  • Breakfast every morning.
  • Free use of our kayaks (single and double).

Payments and money

  • We confirm the payment terms (deposit or full payment) with each booking. Prepayments have traditionally been made by bank transfer.
  • There is an ATM on Ibo, but it is not always reliable. Bring enough cash for your stay.

Seasons and weather

  • Northern Mozambique has a dry season and a rainy season. During the rainy season some roads, such as the Metuge road, can be difficult; see Getting to Ibo.
  • Humpback whales visit the area between July and November.
  • Weather forecasts for this remote area are only a guide. Sea activities such as snorkelling, dhow trips or the sandbank depend on wind, waves and tides.

Tides

Tides shape life on Ibo. Walking to Quirimba Island is only possible at low tide, and the sandbank appears with the tide. We plan activities with the tide tables; ask us on arrival.

Peak periods

August, 20 December to 5 January, and the Easter holidays are our busiest times. Book early, and note that most special offers do not apply in these periods.

The bar

Open to non-residents from 5 pm to 9 pm.

Good to bring

  • Light, modest clothing for the village (Ibo is mainly Muslim), a hat and reef-safe sun cream.
  • A reusable water bottle.
  • Your own snorkelling mask if you prefer it.
  • A torch: the old town streets are dark at night.
